CHOOSE THE RIGHT DIRECTION
The font name in Word is useful, but the way copied text behaves is often the easiest clue.
If copied text stays readable as हिन्दी on a website or phone, it is probably Unicode.
If Hindi looks correct only after selecting Kruti Dev or Chanakya, it is probably legacy-encoded text.
UNDERSTAND THE FORMATS
A font changes how text looks. An encoding decides which stored value represents each character. Legacy Hindi fonts often map Devanagari shapes to Latin code positions.

No. Kruti Dev is a legacy non-Unicode font family. Its text depends on a specific character-to-glyph mapping and the correct font being installed.
Hindi copied from WhatsApp is normally Unicode. Choose Unicode to Kruti Dev or Unicode to Chanakya only if you need one of those legacy outputs.
The legacy text uses Latin code positions to display Hindi shapes through the Kruti Dev font. Without that font, the stored characters can appear as Latin letters and symbols.
