How Bombay High Court Evaluates Shorthand
Shorthand transcription is evaluated on a strict 40-marks scale with standard mistake deductions.
Each full error (omission, substitution, addition, spelling) carries a 1.0 mark deduction. Half errors carry a 0.5 mark deduction.
Candidates must score at least 20 out of 40 marks (50% or ≤5% total mistakes) in shorthand transcription to qualify for the Typing Test and Viva-Voce.

Is the original passage visible during transcription?
No. In the actual Bombay High Court exam, you only hear the 5-minute audio dictation, write shorthand notes in your notebook, and then type the transcription from your notebook on the computer.
How much time is given for computer transcription?
For Lower Grade (400 words @ 80 WPM), 20 to 25 minutes are provided. For Higher Grade (500 words @ 100 WPM), 25 to 30 minutes are provided.
