Use your normal English physical keyboard. Every key follows its fixed Punjabi InScript position; this is not English-to-Punjabi spelling conversion.

CHOOSE YOUR TEST

Choose a duration below. The same Gurmukhi test opens with that time, so you do not leave this page.

KEYBOARD OR FONT?

Know what you are practising.

A font changes how Punjabi looks. A keyboard layout decides which physical key creates each character.

ਅ

Gurmukhi script

This test creates real Unicode Gurmukhi text that can be copied, searched and used on modern devices.

Y

InScript layout

Keys have fixed positions. For example, y gives ਬ, e gives ਾ and i gives ਗ.

Ra

Raavi is a font

Raavi and Noto Sans Gurmukhi can display Unicode Punjabi. They do not change the InScript key positions.

What happens when you type?

The page catches each physical QWERTY key and produces the matching Punjabi InScript character inside the typing box. It does not turn an English spelling such as “sat sri akaal” into a Punjabi phrase. If your school, course or exam names Asees, AnmolLipi or another legacy layout, practise that exact layout separately because its key mapping can be different.

CLEAR RESULTS

See speed without hiding mistakes.

The result uses what you actually typed, so a wrong matra, space or Gurmukhi letter affects the score.

1

WPM

For this practice tool, five correct characters count as one word.

2

Accuracy

Accuracy compares correct input with all characters you typed.

3

Mistakes

Wrong letters, matras, spaces and punctuation are counted as mismatches.

GURMUKHI PRACTICE PLAN

Build Punjabi typing one key group at a time.

01

Start with common letters

Practise ਕ, ਗ, ਪ, ਰ, ਤ, ਮ and the space key before using a long passage.

02

Add vowel signs

Work slowly with ਾ, ਿ, ੀ, ੁ, ੂ, ੇ, ੈ, ੋ and ੌ. A wrong matra changes the word.

03

Then learn special signs

Practise tippi ੰ, bindi ਂ, addak ੱ, nukta ਼ and virama ੍ as separate key skills.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Punjabi typing test FAQs

Why was the old typing box showing English?

A normal text box accepts the active system keyboard. This updated test applies Punjabi Unicode InScript mapping inside the page, so physical English-labelled keys create Gurmukhi characters.

Is this Punjabi phonetic typing?

No. It is fixed-key InScript typing. English spelling is not automatically changed into Punjabi words.

Can I add my own Punjabi paragraph?

Yes. Select My Paragraph, paste Unicode Gurmukhi text, check the word and character count, and choose a timer from 1 to 60 minutes.

Does this page use the Raavi keyboard?

Raavi is a Unicode Gurmukhi font, while InScript is the keyboard layout used here. The page can display with Raavi when it is installed, but the physical key positions stay InScript.

Can I see the Punjabi keyboard while practising?

Yes. Use Show Punjabi InScript keyboard. You can view Shift characters and click the on-screen keys.

KEEP PRACTISING PUNJABI
